Exhibiting a GuestXR poster on conflict resolution in VR at the CWI Spring School on Social XR

Esen Küçüktütüncü, PhD candidate from the Event Lab and the Institute of Neurosciences of the University of Barcelona, attended the 2nd edition of the Spring School on Social XR, organised by the Research Institute for Mathematics & Computer Science in the Netherlands (CWI), which took place from March 4th to 8th, 2024, in Amsterdam (the Netherlands).

During one of the poster sessions of the event, Esen Küçüktütüncü presented the poster “Preliminary Results on Conflict Resolution in VR”, which contains outcomes of one of the four case studies part of the GuestXR project.

In particular, the research builds on two well-known approaches for conflict resolution: perspective talking and intergroup contact. The poster presents the results of an experiment that tested whether body swapping can have positive effects on conflict resolution. The experiment used VR United technology.

This work was also contributed by Ramon Oliva and Mel Slater, project partners from the Event Lab. Download the poster here:

The aim of the CWI spring school was to learn about Social XR as a new medium for communication and collaboration following an interdisciplinary approach, and welcoming students from technology, social sciences, and humanities.

Targeted for PhD students from different disciplines, the topics treated in the spring school included 3D Capturing and Modelling realistic avatars, ethics by design, rendering and interaction, or human factors and evaluation.
