GuestXR is present in a conference on the potential of metaverse organised by the EMRN

The GuestXR project has taken part in the conference “A Metaverse for the Good”, organised by the European Metaverse Research Network on April 9th-10th at the Contemporary Culture Center of Barcelona (CCCB).

Simona Neri, GuestXR project’s coordinator from Eurecat, presented on April 9th the initiative and the main outcomes achieved up to date. Her presentation was part of a session that included talks from other related European projects such as SONICOM and META-TOO, moderated by professor Eric Brousseau.

Moreover, Joanna Luberadzka, researcher at the Eurecat’s Multimedia Technologies Unit, participated in the session “Creating the Metaverse: Technical Challenges and Solutions”, moderated by professor Sylvia Xueni Pan.

During the session, she presented a paper on new methods to improve acoustics in XR environments based in deep learning. In particular, the work introduces the concept of acoustic (in)coherence and discusses why it is crucial for smooth interaction.

The EMRN conference discussed how the metaverse may have a profound impact on the way we live, bringing new beneficial ways of carrying out educational, social and economic activities, but may also introduce problems in the ethical, legal, business, psychological, political and social sphere.

The event counted on the presence of the most important key actors in the field, including representative industries like Meta and the European Commission and led to constructive discussion, setting up the basis for a proper pathway towards Metaverse for good.
