GuestXR is present at the IEEE World Haptics Conference 2025 in South Korea
Anatole Lécuyer, Research Director at Inria Rennes, participated in the IEEE World Haptics Conference 2025, held in Suwon (South Korea), on July 9.
During the event, Lécuyer delivered the plenary talk “Welcome to my haptic illusion factory: pseudo-haptics, persuasive haptics, haptic motion, and more!” where he shared personal insights and key scientific contributions that have shaped the understanding of interactive and immersive haptic technologies.
Anatole Lécuyer introduced the concept of pseudo-haptic feedback, which uses visual cues to create convincing haptic sensations without the need for complex hardware. He also explored recent developments in persuasive haptics and haptic motion illusions, demonstrating their potential to amplify emotional engagement, embodiment, and social interaction in virtual environments.
Moreover, he introduced GuestXR project and its mission to enhance human interaction and collective dynamics in the metaverse through emerging XR and affective technologies.
In addition to the keynote, Anatole Lécuyer presented the GuestXR-related demo “Walk on Hands”, an innovative experience simulating virtual walking through vibrations on the hands. The demo was developed in collaboration with Julien Manson, Claudio Pacchierotti, and Justine Saint-Aubert, also from Inria centre at Rennes University, and offered attendees a novel way to explore self-motion and body ownership illusions, core elements in the exploration of embodied interaction.
The IEEE World Haptics Conference is the premier international conference covering all aspects of haptics, including fundamental scientific findings, technological developments, algorithms and applications. It is a central venue for reporting research results and demonstrating novel capabilities in the field of haptics. The conference shared the most up-to-date scientific discoveries and innovative products.
